Cooperation and Supervision

The Topography of Terror Foundation fulfills its mission by taking on supervisory responsibilities on both the state and federal level. One important aspect of its work is to provide advice and content support to the establishment and advancement of other memorials and commemorative sites.

Within the decentralized German memorial landscape, the programs of the foundation’s Memorial Museums Department serve to provide a nationwide professional network of memorials. Moreover, the staff of the foundation fulfils an advisory function by serving on the boards of other memorial sites and related institutions. On the international level, the foundation’s involvement in the “Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research,” founded in Stockholm in 1998, warrants particular mention.

The Topography of Terror Foundation is well-connected regionally through its membership in the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Gedenkstätten in Berlin und Brandenburg” (Working Group of Memorials in Berlin und Brandenburg, AK I). There is also the “Permanent Conference for Directors of National Socialist Memorial Sites in the Berlin Area,” which was founded in 2009 on the initiative of the federal government and represented by the directors of the Topography of Terror Foundation, the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Site, the German Resistance Memorial Center, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe Foundation and the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum.

Through its special events program, the Topography of Terror Foundation participates actively in the national and international network of memorial and educational sites, public institutions, associations and foundations that address the history of National Socialism and engage in historical and political educational work. The foundation often conducts its special events – primarily seminars and conferences – in cooperation with other partners, including the federal and state agencies for political education. Reciprocally, the Topography of Terror Foundation is also involved in events organized by other institutions and contributes to larger exhibition projects.
