When the Wehrmacht invaded the Netherlands in May 1940 there were 140,000 Jews living in the country. The German occupiers implemented increasingly harsh anti-Jewish measures. In all, 107,000 men, women and children were deported to the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. At least 102,000 of them were murdered by the SS or succumbed to the murderous working and living conditions.

This is the first exhibition about the persecution of the Jews during the German occupation of the Netherlands to focus solely on photographic documents. It was developed by the NIOD Instituut voor Oorlogs-, Holocaust- en Genocidestudies in cooperation with the Joods Cultureel Kwartier / Nationaal Holocaust Museum i.o. and the Stiftung Topographie des Terrors.
