Between 1933 and 1945 the central institutions of Nazi terror and persecution were located on the site now occupied by the Topography of Terror Foundation. From here the Nazis coordinated European-wide terror and the genocide of the Jews of Europe. Today, various tours of this site provide the unique opportunity for a differentiated examination of Nazi policies of terror and their consequences up to the present. This means looking at the perpetrators and their motives and deeds. At the same time, it involves asking what effect Nazi terror had on the lives of the population, and how it changed their living conditions, thinking, and scope for action.
